Case Study: Braen Stone Industries

"It paid for itself in less than a year!"

Braen Stone Industries (Haledon, NJ) installed their system last year. They were founded in 1904 and continued to grow throughout the years. They operate multiple plants, quarries, and a recycling center. They had a significant problem producing the signed tickets to prove that the product had either been received or delivered.

Braen's document imaging solution paid for itself in less than a year! How did they do it?

  • They eliminated the time for filing and searching for tickets, then faxing or e-mailing based on customer inquiries. This saved Braen the equivalent of one full-time person at a cost of $35 - 40,000 per year.
  • They reduced their 3-part ticket to a one-part ticket (now 8.5" by 14" that prints two copies on one perforated sheet. They are torn and one copy is given to the driver and the other is scanned. Additional copies can be printed if the driver needs multiple tickets. Once the ticket is scanned, it is available at any location in seconds to be printed or faxed. Braen saved over $100,000 per year in forms costs.
  • They were also able to replace their matrix printers with non-impact printers at half the price, that were more reliable and with less maintenance. A benefit they did not expect to receive was that it reduced the time to print a ticket from 9 seconds to 2 seconds. They were able to increase the throughput of the trucks; now the trucks are not backed-up waiting for their tickets. Also, with non-impact printers, barcodes can be printed along with the ticket number to increase accuracy to 99.9% for reading of the tickets.
